This is what I recieved on my Seminar paper, written on a new eye opening film "1-800-India." PBS ran this Independent film in order to better understand how developing countries such as India are radically changing because of western influence. Below is the link to more information about the film and about India.

Below is the paper I wrote on the film:
A Taste of Globalization
India is one of the words growing nations; Their cheap labor and willingness to cooperate with nations such, like the United States, is drastically changing the country. The Film 1-800-India opened my eyes to much of the changes India is experiencing from this.
GECIS is a telemarketing company that the film follows in order to explore the improvement these companies are making on the country. These companies are part of the BPO which is the Business Outsourcing Industry. The BPO essentially is connecting countries that want to send specific areas of labor to countries that will do the work for cheap.
India is very popular for this industry for the simple fact that many of its citizens speak fluent English. Countries like the US and Australia are thriving off of these conveniences. However it’s facing road blocks with many of the social norms. These companies are dependent on 24 hour work schedules but with the high level of crime India has it hasn’t been easy. To keep employees at work after dark, GECIS has provided a shuttle than can often drive hours away to pick up the employees. They also have built a dining hall so that the people do not have to leave the complex. This is important because of such high crime rates.
Companies like GECIS are working hard to protect employers for a few important reasons, but arguably the most notable is it’s growing the rate of women employers. One of the country’s biggest setbacks is it’s inequality between genders. With companies like this is giving women the chance to earn a decent living is quite noticeably changing the Y generations belief on gender roles. The change is slow but is showing promise.
The improvement of other countries without a doubt can be and has been beneficial to the United States growth. As a College student, just about everything I am learning is how globalization is affecting my life and the lives of everyone in the globe. I spend hours out of every day keeping up to date with the constant changes all over the world. “1-800-India” has dramatically expanded my knowledge of our relations with India and has given me even more insight to possible future investments.
